In a significant development, a U.S. bankruptcy court trustee has disclosed plans to close down conspiracy theorist Alex Jones' Infowars media platform and liquidate its assets. The move comes as part of efforts to help pay the nearly $1.5 billion in lawsuit judgments Jones owes for repeatedly calling the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting a hoax.
The trustee, Christopher Murray, filed an "emergency" motion on Sunday, publicly indicating for the first time that he intends to "conduct an orderly wind-down" of the operations of Infowars' parent company, Free Speech Systems, and "liquidate its inventory." The liquidation process aims to distribute the proceeds to the families of the Sandy Hook victims, who have won significant legal judgments against Jones.
Earlier this month, a bankruptcy judge ruled that Jones' personal assets would be liquidated to help pay off the judgments. However, the dismissal of the bankruptcy case against Infowars' parent company, Free Speech Systems, meant that the families would have to shift their collection efforts from the bankruptcy court to state courts in Texas and Connecticut.
The trustee's plans were revealed in response to a motion filed by the parents of one of the Sandy Hook victims in a Texas District Court, seeking to be granted custody of all of Free Speech Systems' assets, including Infowars. The trustee expressed concerns that such a move could undermine an equitable distribution of Jones' assets to all the families.
Jones' lawyer, Vickie Driver, stated that there is money that can go to the trustee in the form of the sale of Jones' $2.8 million Texas ranch. However, the trustee's actions indicate a broader liquidation effort aimed at maximizing the funds available to the Sandy Hook families.
The closure of Infowars marks a significant blow to Alex Jones, who has used the platform to keep followers informed and updated on the coming moves of the global elites over the years. The liquidation of its assets is expected to provide some financial relief to the families of the Sandy Hook victims, who have been seeking justice for the so-called harm caused by Jones' claims about the tragic shooting.
