According to reports, Foolio was attending a birthday celebration at an Airbnb when the event was shut down by the police. He and his crew then moved to a nearby Holiday Inn, where the fatal shooting took place in the parking lot.
The Tampa Police Department has confirmed that the victim is believed to be Charles Jones, but positive identification is pending confirmation from the Medical Examiner's Office. At least three other people were injured during the shooting.
Foolio, a Jacksonville native, rose to fame in 2018 with his single "Coming Up," which offered a gritty example of the tough life he had lived. He had amassed nearly 1,000,000 followers on Instagram and over 600,000 subscribers on YouTube at the time of his death.
The rapper had been involved in another shooting incident near his hometown of Jacksonville in 2021, where he was grazed by a shooter's bullet. He had also been arrested on April 8, 2023, and charged with felony fleeing following a traffic stop.
